State prosecutors have filed an indictment in the Beersheba juvenile district court against a 17-year-old from the Negev, accusing him of negligent manslaughter after a police stop in Eilat ended in a crash that killed his passenger. The case was filed by attorney Idan Ivgi from the Southern District Prosecutor’s Office.
According to the indictment, the teen drove toward Eilat several weeks ago at night in a car with false license plates, without a driver’s license and without valid insurance. A 20-year-old man was in the car with him. At the checkpoint at the entrance to Eilat, the boy allegedly told officers he was his older brother. Police became suspicious, determined he did not have a license, and ordered him out of the vehicle.
The indictment says he then accelerated and fled. During the chase, he is accused of driving recklessly, weaving between lanes and traveling at a speed unsuitable for the road conditions. He then left the road onto a dirt track, lost control, and the car rolled over several times.
The passenger suffered critical injuries, was taken to hospital, and later died. The defendant was also hurt and was discharged from the hospital a few hours later. He is charged with negligent manslaughter, impersonation, obstructing a police officer, transporting a passenger unlawfully, driving without a license, driving without valid registration, and driving without insurance. The case was investigated by the Eilat police station.
