A dramatic late-night police chase on Route 40 ended with the arrest of a 17-year-old rider from Be'er Tuvia who was riding an unlicensed motorcycle and carrying a friend without a helmet. The incident happened shortly before midnight, when a traffic police officer from the Southern district was driving home after finishing his shift and noticed the motorcycle moving suspiciously, with no license plate and two people aboard.
The officer signaled the rider to pull over, but the teen sped off into the dark instead. The officer pursued them with flashing lights and sirens until the motorcycle lost control, slid off the road and stopped in a ditch. The rider and passenger were then detained at the scene.
Police said the initial check showed the rider had never obtained the proper license for that type of motorcycle. His bike was immediately taken out of service, and he was issued a summons for driving without the required license and disobeying a police officer, along with a formal hearing.
Helmet-camera footage released by police shows the rider pleading for mercy and crying, saying, “Please, I beg you, please have mercy on me.” When asked why he fled, he replied, “Because I was scared, because they told me there’s a police officer, run right away.” The officer told him, “You are under arrest,” and explained that he was being detained for disobeying a police officer and endangering lives, including his passenger who was riding without a helmet. Police said the video is being used as part of a wider road-safety campaign under the national operations “Safe Road” and “Committed to Life,” with traffic units and motorcycle patrols stepped up across Israel.
