Eilat Man Flees Police, Barricades on School Roof, Threatens Officer

A man in his 30s from Eilat was arrested after a bizarre incident involving a police chase, a rooftop barricade, and threats against an officer. The suspect was caught driving without ever having obtained a license, and while facing two court-ordered driving bans. When police attempted to stop him, he accelerated, hit a traffic island, abandoned his vehicle, and fled on foot into the Begin school.

Inside the school grounds, the suspect climbed onto the roof of the security booth and refused to come down. A police officer ascended the roof and apprehended him. Following his arrest, the suspect allegedly threatened the officer, saying, "I will stab you, I will burn your children."

The entire sequence, from the attempted escape to the rooftop standoff and the threats, was captured on the officers' body cameras. The suspect has been indicted and faces a request for detention until the end of proceedings. This marks the third time he has been charged with driving without a license and the third time for driving while suspended.

He has previously served prison time for similar offenses and has a conviction for driving under the influence of drugs. Additionally, he has a six-month suspended sentence and a conditional driving ban that can be activated. During his interrogation, the suspect admitted to driving the vehicle and knowing he was suspended, while remaining silent on other matters. Prosecutors argue that past jail sentences and lengthy driving bans have not deterred him, and no alternative measure can prevent him from endangering the public by driving again.
