Maccabi Tel Aviv Reclaims Derby Dominance Over Hapoel Tel Aviv
Maccabi Tel Aviv decisively defeated Hapoel Tel Aviv 4-1 in the Tel Aviv derby, reclaiming bragging rights a year after their 12-year winning streak was broken. The victory came in the fourth round of the 2026/27 Israeli Premier League season.
Maccabi took an early lead in the 19th minute with a goal from captain Dor Peretz, his seventh league goal of the season. Hapoel managed to equalize with a goal from Stav Tzuriel, but Maccabi quickly regained the advantage through a goal by Ohad Davida, a former Hapoel player.
The match turned further against Hapoel when Tzuriel received a second yellow card, resulting in a red and leaving his team to play with ten men for the entire second half. Maccabi capitalized on the numerical advantage, scoring two late goals in stoppage time through Lior Refaelov and Yonatan Madmon to seal the 4-1 victory.
With this win, Maccabi Tel Aviv remains undefeated and perfect in the league this season, opening a gap at the top of the table ahead of second-place Maccabi Haifa. The team appears to be on track for another championship title, continuing their dominance in Israeli football.
