Newly Promoted Ramat Gan Stuns Maccabi Netanya in League Opener
Hapoel Ramat Gan, a newly promoted team, secured their first-ever victory in the Israeli Premier League on Monday, defeating Maccabi Netanya 2-0. Netanya entered the match undefeated in their last 11 league games against Ramat Gan and had conceded only two goals in their first three matches of the season. In contrast, Netanya had lost all three of their previous games this season.
The upset echoed a previous league win for Ramat Gan against Netanya in the 2009/10 season, where they also won 1-0 in the fourth round. This loss marks the end of Netanya's best league run since the 2019/20 season.
In other matches, Hapoel Haifa also celebrated their first league win of the season, beating Bnei Sakhnin 3-1 in the first half. Meanwhile, Maccabi Haifa secured a dominant 4-0 away victory against Ironi Kiryat Shmona. New signing Brazão assisted the opening goal and scored one himself, while young substitute Noam Steifman and Brazilian defender Tsunami also contributed to the scoring.
