Israel's Sea of Galilee Drops Significantly Due to Heatwave

The water level in the Sea of Galilee, Israel's primary freshwater reservoir, has dropped by nearly 5 centimeters over the past weekend. This decline is attributed to the ongoing September heatwave, which has caused rapid evaporation from the lake. Water authority officials reported that the water level fell by 4.5 centimeters during the holiday weekend, bringing the surface to 213.455 meters below sea level.

The current water level is 4.655 meters below the upper "red line" marker, set at 208.80 meters below sea level. It is now only 45.5 centimeters above the critical lower "red line," which is at 213 meters below sea level.

Meteorologists and water management specialists are closely monitoring the situation. Future water level changes will depend on the weather conditions and temperatures throughout September, as the heat directly impacts the rate of evaporation from the lake's surface.
