IDF Launches Extensive Strikes on Hezbollah Targets in Southern Lebanon

The Israel Defense Forces said it carried out a broad wave of strikes overnight and continued attacking Hezbollah terrorists and terror infrastructure in several areas of southern Lebanon. According to the military, the operation was still ongoing at the time of the report.

The IDF said the strikes came after repeated ceasefire violations by Hezbollah operatives in recent days. It said the command level had no choice but to respond forcefully in order to make clear that violations would not be ignored.

The military action is taking place despite what the report described as an especially sensitive diplomatic environment. The article said Iran has formally conditioned its signature on a new memorandum of understanding with the United States on Israel stopping all attacks in Lebanon and withdrawing all of its forces across the border.

Despite that Iranian demand and efforts to pressure Jerusalem into halting operations entirely, the IDF is signaling through its actions on the ground that protecting Israeli civilians and border security comes before any political arrangement, and that any breach of calm will be met with a strong response.
