Lebanese media reported heavy overnight Israeli bombardment focused on the Nabatieh area, including the villages of Tebnine and Mount Ali Taher. Reports in Lebanon said there were more than 20 airstrikes between the Litani and Zahrani rivers.
The Israel Defense Forces confirmed on Friday morning that it had struck Hezbollah operatives and terror infrastructure across several areas in southern Lebanon and said the attacks were continuing. An IDF spokesman said the strikes were carried out after Hezbollah had “repeatedly violated” the ceasefire.
Hezbollah issued its own statement saying that, in response to what it called Israeli violations of the ceasefire and as part of Ashura commemorations, it fired guided missiles, rockets and artillery shells at an Israeli force that tried to infiltrate the northern part of the area.
The fighting also affected regional diplomacy. Iran announced that it was suspending further talks with the United States after the signing of a memorandum of understanding and the declaration of a ceasefire between the two countries. U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance said he would not travel to Switzerland for talks scheduled for Friday.
