Israeli Construction Tech Firm Buildots Raises $130 Million

By מנדי הניג
Translated & summarized from Bizportal by baba
The story · English

Israeli construction technology company Buildots has secured $130 million in a new funding round, driven by a surge in global investments in data centers and AI infrastructure, and the increasing need to shorten timelines on large construction projects. The round was led by O.G. Venture Partners and included participation from Lightspeed Venture Partners, Intel Capital, and others. This brings Buildots' total funding since its inception to $297 million. The company, which did not disclose its valuation, reports its revenues are tripling annually and it works with over 100 construction, development, and technology firms worldwide.

Buildots develops an AI and computer vision system designed to monitor actual progress on construction sites and compare it against project plans and schedules. The system analyzes video documentation from the field alongside 3D models and work plans, aiming to identify discrepancies between design and execution in real-time. Clients include Intel, Digital Realty, STO Building Group, JE Dunn, Mortenson, Bouygues, and HOCHTIEF, as well as Israeli firms like Tidhar, Ashtrom, Azrieli, and Mivne.

The funding comes as the construction industry benefits from significant investments in computing infrastructure, with tech giants pouring billions into data centers, chip plants, and energy facilities. The larger the project investment, the greater the financial cost of delays, a problem Buildots aims to address. The company notes a shift from single-project contracts to multi-year agreements, with some deals reaching millions of dollars.

While the data center market is a major growth engine, Buildots' technology is applicable to traditional projects like residential towers, offices, schools, and hospitals. "This change began before the AI infrastructure investment wave, but it dramatically accelerated it," said Roee Dannon, CEO and co-founder. "Often, it's discovered too late that a project is deviating from the plan. In data centers, due to their size, complexity, and investment, any such deviation results in massive losses."

Founded in 2018 by Dannon, Aviv Leibovitz, and Yakir Sudri, all graduates of the Talpiot program, Buildots employs over 400 people globally, with approximately 260 in Israel. The company's technology uses proprietary models developed for construction, analyzing data collected from sites over years of operation. It can identify and classify hundreds of work types from video and link this information to project schedules, and has recently incorporated workforce data to better identify bottlenecks and delays.

Ziv Kop, managing partner at O.G. Venture Partners, compared Buildots' ambition to that of Mobileye in the automotive sector, stating, "Buildots' unique models and its ability to collect field data are bringing the AI revolution to the traditional construction world and the technological construction world, which now includes data centers, chip manufacturing plants, and defense-tech facilities." Buildots' challenge post-funding will be to translate the current demand for AI infrastructure construction into sustained growth and to increase activity with existing clients, leveraging the significant resources to establish its technology as a standard tool in large construction projects.
