Kosovo Football Captain Resigns, Six More Players Follow Amidst Federation Dispute

Kosovo's national football team is facing a significant crisis ahead of upcoming matches, including one against Israel, as captain Amir Rrahmani announced his retirement from international duty. Rrahmani, a prominent defender for Napoli, stated he will not play for Kosovo as long as the current leadership of the Football Federation remains in place. He expressed his frustration in a sharp Instagram post, citing years of unaddressed issues and a lack of qualified personnel within the federation.

Rrahmani detailed his grievances, writing, "For many reasons, constant opposition and the lack of qualified people to handle our problems and complaints, the situation has remained without any improvement for many years. And what did I get in return? Constant and coordinated attacks for over two years from those who were supposed to protect us." He emphasized that his decision was made to preserve his integrity as a captain and professional player, and above all, his personal values.

The situation has escalated, with reports indicating that at least six other key players are following Rrahmani's lead. These players, including Edon Zhegrova, Florent Muslija, Arijanet Murić, Milot Rashica, Vedat Muriqi, and Valon Berisha, have reportedly informed the federation that they will not be available for selection for the upcoming games. This mass exodus signals a deep rift between the players and the federation's president, Agim Ademi, with players refusing to represent the country under his leadership.
