Red Star Belgrade Considered Selling Israeli Midfielder Abu Fani

Red Star Belgrade, the Serbian football club, considered selling Israeli midfielder Moamen Abu Fani during the recent transfer window as part of efforts to streamline their squad, reduce wage costs, and cut the budget. The club was reportedly willing to part ways with seven players, including Abu Fani and Luizinho, but failed to receive satisfactory offers for any of them.

Abu Fani, a former player for Maccabi Haifa and Hapoel Tel Aviv, joined Red Star Belgrade in the summer transfer window. Despite the club's initial intention to sell, he and Luizinho are now registered in the team's squad for the Conference League, indicating they will remain with the club for the time being.

The club's decision to potentially offload players comes after a difficult start to the season. Red Star Belgrade was eliminated from Champions League qualifiers by Hapoel Be'er Sheva and also failed to advance in the Europa League after losing to Viktoria Plzen, despite a strong first-leg performance.
