Cyprus Arrests Israeli and Palestinian Couples for Drug Smuggling Ring
Cypriot police have arrested two Israeli couples and two Palestinian couples in the city of Limassol on suspicion of involvement in drug trafficking. The arrests followed the seizure of over 126 kilograms of various narcotics. Police reported that the drugs were discovered during searches of two apartments belonging to the four suspects. Authorities believe the group is part of an organized network smuggling drugs from Israel to Cyprus using luxury yachts docked in Limassol and Larnaca.
Initial investigations suggest the drugs were transported from Israel to Cyprus on luxury yachts. They were allegedly concealed inside paint buckets before being stored in the apartments for distribution to Israeli tourists on the island, rather than local residents. A Cypriot court ordered the detention of the four suspects for an additional eight days to allow for the completion of the investigation. Police also confiscated mobile phones and other electronic devices found in the apartments.
