Israel Prepares to Intercept New Gaza Flotilla

Israel's security establishment is preparing for a new protest flotilla expected to sail from Europe to the Gaza Strip in late October. The flotilla, reportedly planning to depart from Sicily, Italy, aims to break the naval blockade imposed on the coastal territory. Israeli intelligence indicates the current organization is small, involving a few vessels and dozens of pro-Palestinian activists, but anticipates potential growth as the departure date nears. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have begun preliminary preparations to intercept the ships.

Discussions within the security apparatus have established a firm policy: Israel will not permit the blockade to be breached. If the flotilla participants ignore warnings and instructions from security forces, the IDF's elite naval commando unit, Shayetet 13, is expected to carry out an operational takeover of the vessels at sea. Those detained will likely face brief detention in Israel before being deported.

This planned protest follows a similar attempt in May, when a flotilla from Turkey was intercepted by Shayetet 13. The activists on board that vessel were detained and subsequently deported.
