IDF Prepares for Potential Gaza Flotilla Attempt by Sea
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) are preparing for a potential attempt to reach the Gaza Strip by sea, with security officials anticipating a flotilla departing from Sicily in mid-October. The activists aboard are expected to try and break the naval blockade of the Gaza Strip, according to Channel 12 News. Preparations have already been discussed in security meetings held over the past week, and the IDF has begun initial arrangements for the possibility that the flotilla will indeed set sail.
Currently, Israeli intelligence suggests a relatively small flotilla, comprising a few vessels and dozens of anti-Israel activists. However, security assessments indicate that additional vessels and activists may join later. The IDF has clarified that its policy will not change; as with previous flotillas, vessels will not be allowed to reach Gaza.
In the event that participants attempt to breach the blockade and reach the shores of Gaza, naval commandos may be deployed to take control of the vessels.
