Israel Volleyball Team Secures Dramatic European Championship Victory Over Portugal

The Israeli national volleyball team achieved a significant win at the European Championship in Bulgaria, defeating Portugal 3-2 in a thrilling match. Israel demonstrated resilience by coming back from a deficit twice during the game.

Portugal took the first set 25-19, but Israel responded by winning the second set 25-20. The Portuguese team regained the lead with a 25-20 victory in the third set, putting Israel in a difficult position. However, Israel fought back, winning the fourth set 25-22 to force a decisive fifth set.

In the final set, Israel dominated with aggressive play and strong defense, securing a decisive 15-7 win. Mark Rore was the standout player for Israel, scoring 24 points despite a back injury, while Shi Liberman contributed 22 points.

Coach Itamar Stein described the game as a "rollercoaster" and praised his team's performance, especially in the final set, highlighting their defense, passing, aggression, and intelligence. He also commended Rore's determination to play through his injury.

Rore expressed his elation, stating that the team proved its ability to compete at the highest level. Israel's next challenge is a tough match against host nation Bulgaria on Tuesday at 7:00 PM.
