Israel Volleyball Team Makes Historic European Championship Debut

The Israeli men's national volleyball team began its European Championship campaign with a 3-1 loss to Ukraine in a hard-fought match. Despite the defeat and a late injury to player Mark Rura, the team's performance has generated optimism for their future games.

In an interview, player Shi Lieberman reflected on the team's historic qualification for the championship, the first in 50 years. "What we are doing here is completely history, and to be a part of it, especially with the people I love most, is true happiness," Lieberman stated. He recalled the decisive qualifying match against Estonia as the moment they realized their historic achievement.

Lieberman also shared insights into the team's camaraderie, highlighting his close bond with teammate Mark Rura, whom he considers like a brother. He emphasized the importance of hard work, trusting the process, and maintaining focus during critical moments, drawing from his own perfectionist tendencies and the advice to always give his best.

Looking ahead after the opening loss, Lieberman acknowledged the tough competition but expressed a desire for the team to aim for victory in every game. He believes reaching the round of 16 would be a significant achievement, with the ultimate dream being to qualify for the Olympics. The team's next challenge is a match against a strong Polish team.
