Israel Volleyball Captain Eyes European Championship Success

The Israeli national volleyball team is set to make its historic debut at the European Championship in Bulgaria on Wednesday, facing Ukraine in Sofia at 7:00 PM. Ahead of the match, team setter Noam Ariel spoke about the team's unprecedented qualification, his role in crucial game moments, and future aspirations.

Ariel expressed satisfaction with his personal journey and the team's historic achievement, the first European Championship appearance in 50 years, but emphasized their potential for further improvement, stating, "The sky is the limit." He recalled the growing realization of their historic potential during the qualification campaign, fueled by each successive victory.

He highlighted the team's strong camaraderie and mutual support, noting that coach Itamar Stein's high emotional intelligence is key to motivating players. His pre-game routine includes an early start, a good breakfast, a morning practice, and a video session, followed by a light lunch and a nap. He also engages in mentally stimulating activities like learning French to diversify his focus before matches. Ariel emphasized belief in oneself and the team's path over specific rituals.

He admitted to missing his partner and family Friday dinners while on tour. Ariel attributed the team's strength to mutual encouragement, passion for the sport, and strong unity, supported by the professional staff. The team's next major goal is to reach the round of 16 in the European Championship, with a personal ambition to win the French Pro B league.
