Israel Volleyball Captain Eyes European Championship Success

Israel's national volleyball team is set to make its historic debut at the European Championship in Sofia, Bulgaria, facing Ukraine in their opening match. Ahead of the game, team captain Noam Ariel expressed his excitement and ambition in an interview, stating, "The sky is the limit" for the squad.

Ariel reflected on the team's unprecedented qualification, noting that it wasn't a single moment but a growing realization with each victory that they were on the verge of achieving something special. He highlighted the strong camaraderie within the team, emphasizing mutual support and humor as key factors in managing pressure. Coach Itamar Stein was specifically praised for his high emotional intelligence and ability to connect with each player.

When discussing his role as setter, Ariel acknowledged the immense responsibility of making decisions during crucial moments. He stressed that this skill develops through experience and a deep understanding of the game, stating, "Setter is not hands, it's emotion." He also shared his personal routine on game days, which includes a good breakfast, a morning practice, video analysis, a nap, and even some French language study to diversify his focus.

Ariel's advice to aspiring young players is to remain persistent and focused on long-term goals, acknowledging the difficult path ahead. He also shared that he misses his partner and family meals when on tour. The team's strength, he believes, lies in their mutual encouragement, passion for the sport, and unity, which shields them from external distractions.

The team's next major goal is to qualify for the World Championship, with an immediate objective of reaching the Round of 16 in the European Championship. Ariel also has personal aspirations, aiming to win the Pro B league in France.
