Israel Declares Ali Taher Ridge Part of Security Zone After Tunnel Destruction

Defense Minister Israel Katz announced on Sunday that the Ali Taher Ridge has been designated as part of Israel's security zone, just three days after the destruction of a significant tunnel complex in the area. Katz stated that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) are operationally prepared to control the ridge and prevent any attempts by Hezbollah or other groups to re-establish a presence there, warning that any approaching would be eliminated.

Katz reiterated the government's stance, echoing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, that Israel will not withdraw from the security zone until Hezbollah is disarmed throughout Lebanon. He affirmed the IDF's commitment to continuing operations with force in the area, targeting terrorists and infrastructure both above and below ground to neutralize threats to Israeli forces.

The announcement follows recent IDF operations on the Ali Taher Ridge, which lasted for weeks. Forces from the 36th Division crossed the Litani River to target Hezbollah infrastructure. During the operation, eight underground tunnels totaling over 5,400 meters were discovered and destroyed using more than 1,100 tons of explosives.

This development comes after reports earlier on Sunday indicated a localized IDF withdrawal to the Beaufort Ridge, with expectations of a reduced troop presence in the coming days, including the potential withdrawal of one brigade from the area.
