Israeli Culture Minister Threatens to Revoke Citizenship of 'Naza' Filmmakers

Israeli Minister of Culture and Sport Miki Zohar announced his intention to seek the revocation of Israeli citizenship for the creators of the film "Naza," which received an award at the Venice Film Festival. Zohar cited "treason" as the basis for his demand, according to the 0404.co.il website. The minister sharply criticized the film and its authors, stating that it portrays Israel and IDF soldiers in a negative light on the international stage. "I will seek to revoke the Israeli citizenship of the film's creators for treason," Zohar declared. He added that his initiated reform of Israeli cinema funding aims to prevent state funds from supporting works that harm Israel and its military. The "Naza" filmmakers received budget funding, and the film was released by The Guardian and JW Films. The minister's statement itself does not initiate a citizenship revocation process, which requires a formal legal procedure.
