IDF Soldiers Investigated After Neutralizing Palestinian Attackers in West Bank

Two incidents in the West Bank within 48 hours have led to IDF soldiers being taken for investigation after firing at Palestinian assailants who posed a threat to them and civilians. In both cases, soldiers reportedly acted in self-defense or to protect others, yet instead of full backing, they faced questioning.

The first incident occurred near the settlement of Malachi Shalom in the Benjamin region. Palestinian assailants from Beit Rima and Al-Mughayyir attacked Jewish hikers with stones. An off-duty soldier among the hikers fired a single shot to deter the attackers. Despite no reported casualties from the shot, the soldier was detained for questioning, and the IDF suspended him pending the investigation.

The second incident took place near the village of Fiqou'a, east of Jenin, in the Menashe region. A group of Palestinians surrounded a Jewish youth grazing his flock and attempted to harm him. An IDF unit responded, and during the engagement, soldiers fired into the air, and one soldier fired a targeted shot at the lower body of an assailant, wounding him.

Despite the soldiers' actions to neutralize threats, the IDF stated that the reasons for the firing are still under investigation, drawing anger from settler leaders. "Soldiers go out to protect residents and their own lives, and instead of receiving clear backing against the enemy, they find themselves under investigation," stated settler representatives, expressing outrage over the sequence of events.
