IDF Soldier Arrested, Suspended After Alleged West Bank Shooting

An active-duty Israeli soldier has been arrested and suspended from service pending an investigation into an alleged shooting incident in the Palestinian village of Al-Mughayyir in the West Bank. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated that the soldier, who reportedly lives on a nearby farm, fired his weapon after confronting Palestinians, responding to alleged stone-throwing. The IDF confirmed that the soldier acted alone, without other forces present at the time, and that no injuries were reported from his gunfire. He was subsequently arrested by the Judea and Samaria District Police for questioning.

This incident occurred amidst a wave of reported violence by far-right Israelis against Palestinians in the West Bank. The IDF reported responding multiple times to Al-Mughayyir on Saturday due to clashes involving stone-throwing between Palestinians and Israeli civilians, as well as the placement of stone blockades. IDF forces dispersed the confrontations and removed the blockades, facing stone-throwing themselves.

In a separate incident, the IDF is investigating Palestinian reports that far-right activists set fire to agricultural lands in the Wadi al-Balat area on the Ramallah-Nablus road. During this event, an IDF soldier, part of a reinforcement unit deployed to the area, allegedly fired into the air and then shot a Palestinian in the lower body, causing injury. The injured Palestinian was evacuated to a hospital. An initial IDF review suggested the shooting occurred after the soldier felt threatened.
