Israeli Judo Stars Aim for Gold and Bronze at Budapest Grand Slam
Israeli judokas Raz Hershko and Yossi Samia are set to secure additional medals on the final day of the Budapest Grand Slam. Hershko (78+ kg) has advanced to the final and will compete for the gold medal. Samia (100 kg) will fight for a bronze medal.
Hershko began her competition in the second round, defeating her Angolan opponent with a waza-ari and an ippon. In the quarterfinals, she overcame Australia's Sydney Andrews with two waza-aris. She secured her spot in the final by defeating Estonia's Ats in the semifinals, who received three penalties within the first 2:30 minutes of the match.
Samia also started in the second round, winning by ippon against Hungary's Habsi. He then defeated a Polish opponent in the round of 16 with a yuko, waza-ari, and ippon. In the quarterfinals, Samia lost to Russia's Bilalov after receiving three penalties, sending him to the repechage.
In the repechage, Samia defeated Romania's Arsene with a waza-ari and ippon within the first minute of their bout. He will now compete for the bronze medal.
