Raz Hershko to Compete for Gold, Yossi Samra for Bronze at Judo Grand Slam

Israeli judoka Raz Hershko has secured at least a silver medal at the Budapest Grand Slam, advancing to the final in the +78kg category. She will compete for gold on Sunday evening. Hershko began her tournament in the second round, defeating her Angolan opponent with a waza-ari and an ippon. In the quarterfinals, she overcame Australia's Sydney Andrews with two waza-ari. Her semifinal victory against Estonia's Kerttu Bets was secured after Bets received three penalties within the first 2:30 minutes of the match.

In the -100kg category, Yossi Samra will contend for a bronze medal. Samra also started in the second round, defeating Hungary's Szabolcs Szabó with an ippon. He then advanced past a Polish opponent in the round of 16 by scoring a yuko, a waza-ari, and an ippon. Samra's path to the bronze medal match involved a loss in the quarterfinals to Russia's Nurlan Mubarakov, who defeated Samra after Samra accumulated three penalties. In his repechage match, Samra defeated Romania's Arsene, scoring a waza-ari and an ippon within the first minute.
