Hamas Planned Coordinated Terror Attacks in Berlin and Vienna

Hamas was planning coordinated terror attacks in Berlin and Vienna to mark the second anniversary of the October 7th massacre, according to a 214-page indictment filed by Germany's Federal Public Prosecutor General with the Berlin Court of Appeal. The planned attacks aimed to simultaneously or closely strike Israeli and Jewish targets in both European capitals, including Israeli diplomats, Jewish community centers, and pro-Israel demonstrations.

Seven suspects are accused of involvement in the plot. One suspect allegedly acted as a confidential informant for Germany's domestic intelligence service while concealing his active role in acquiring ammunition for the terror cells. The operation was supported by an international arms smuggling network operating through Denmark, Germany, and Austria, managed remotely from Turkey and Lebanon.

The plot was foiled on October 1, 2025, just six days before the planned execution. German authorities arrested three suspects in a residential building courtyard in Berlin's Moabit district while they were receiving a weapons cache. Investigators seized an assault rifle, eight Glock pistols, and over 600 rounds of ammunition. A parallel smuggling channel had delivered five pistols and additional ammunition from Copenhagen to Vienna, where they were stored in a rented apartment.

Investigative materials suggest a strategic shift in Hamas's European operations, moving from fundraising and logistics to carrying out deadly attacks on Western targets. Plans for establishing operational cells on the continent were reportedly formulated before October 2023. In August 2025, one suspect filmed a pre-recorded video in Vienna, appearing masked and armed with a Hamas flag, vowing revenge on behalf of the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades.

The case is being heard by the State Security Division of the Berlin Court and is considered one of the most significant terror trials in Germany in recent years. The indictment indicates that the attacks were intended to coincide with the second anniversary of the October 7th massacre.
