Germany Charges Hamas Operatives With Plotting Mass Murder

Germany's federal prosecutor has indicted seven men suspected of Hamas membership and plotting mass attacks against Jewish targets in Germany and Austria. The alleged plot was timed to coincide with remembrance events for the October 7th massacre.

According to the prosecution, the seven men acted on the orders of senior Hamas officials and had acquired an automatic rifle, 13 handguns, and over 700 rounds of ammunition in Germany. The primary targets identified were Israeli diplomats, Jewish community centers, and pro-Israel demonstrations.

Notably, one of the accused had been working as an informant for Germany's Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV) while allegedly preparing the attack. The indictment emphasizes that the suspects were not contemplating vague threats but rather mass murder.

Further details revealed that on August 7, 2025, one of the defendants, identified as the son of senior Hamas official Bassam Naim and former bodyguard of ex-Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, recorded a video confession in his Vienna apartment. In the video, he declared his intention to carry out bloody revenge attacks in Europe on behalf of the "Qassam Brigades."
