German Teen Charged for Planning Terror Attack on Synagogue, Lost Two Fingers in Explosion

The Munich public prosecutor's office has filed charges against a 15-year-old boy from Bavaria suspected of planning a terrorist attack on a synagogue. Investigations revealed he possessed a large quantity of pyrotechnic materials intended for the attack. The indictment was submitted to the juvenile court at the Augsburg District Court, according to the Augsburger Allgemeine newspaper.

German media report that the teenager faces multiple charges, including preparation for a serious violent act endangering state security, illegal possession of explosives, causing an explosion with explosives, and causing dangerous bodily harm. The boy is currently held in custody pending trial.

According to the indictment, the suspect caused an explosion in late October 2025, during which he severed two of his own fingers using a homemade explosive device, and a friend was lightly injured. The investigation has been ongoing since last fall. Until the trial concludes, the suspect is presumed innocent.

His defense attorney has denied the allegations that he planned an attack on a synagogue. Previous statements from the general prosecutor's office indicated that the teenager expressed sympathy for the terrorist group Islamic State (ISIS).
