German Teen Plans Antisemitic Attack on Synagogue, Injures Himself in Bomb Blast

The Munich public prosecutor has charged a 15-year-old boy with planning a terror attack motivated by antisemitism against a synagogue in Bavaria. The indictment, filed at the Augsburg juvenile court, accuses the teenager of preparing a serious violent act endangering the state based on extremist ideology. The case came to light after an accident in late October 2025, when the boy attempted to assemble and detonate an improvised explosive device he made himself. The device exploded in his hands, severing two of his fingers and lightly injuring a friend who was with him. Medical evacuation and emergency reports triggered a police investigation.

Security forces searched his home and adjacent parking area, seizing about three kilograms of explosives, pyrotechnic materials, and fireworks. Examination of his electronic devices revealed digital content linking him to the Islamic State (ISIS) and detailed plans to attack the synagogue. Proceedings involving the minor will be held behind closed doors, as is customary in juvenile court cases in Germany.
