Israeli Judoka Yitzhak Azfiaz Reaches Grand Slam Semifinals in Budapest
Israeli judoka Yitzhak Azfiaz has advanced to the semifinals of the Grand Slam tournament in Budapest, Hungary, in the under-60kg category. The competition serves as a final preparation event for the upcoming World Judo Championships.
Azfiaz secured his spot in the semifinals by defeating opponents from Uzbekistan, the Netherlands, and Portugal. In the preliminary rounds, he beat Duston Roziev of Uzbekistan and Emil Yearing of the Netherlands. He then overcame Terlau Fernandes of Portugal in the quarterfinals.
Meanwhile, fellow Israeli judoka Gefen Primo, competing in the under-52kg category, will participate in the repechage rounds. Primo lost her quarterfinal match to Naomi van Krevel of the Netherlands but had previously won her opening bout against Nicole Marquez of Brazil.
The Israeli delegation at the Budapest Grand Slam includes 17 judokas.
