Protesters Target Israeli Embassy in Bangkok Over Tourist Behavior

Hundreds of demonstrators gathered outside the Israeli Embassy in Bangkok on Thursday, calling for Israeli tourists to show greater respect for Thai laws and culture. The protest was fueled by Thai dissatisfaction with the behavior of tourists, including Israelis, and concerns over land purchases by Israelis.

Protest leader Sonty Limthongkool, a Thai media mogul and political activist, declared that the era of subtle diplomacy was over, stating, "Generosity should never be mistaken for weakness, and hospitality does not equate to surrender or exploitation, and kindness is not an open license for anyone to act with impunity on our sovereign land." Protest signs included messages such as "Israelis, respect the Thai people," and "You Jews do not understand Thai culture, so leave." Other signs featured a crossed-out Israeli flag with "Boycott Israel" and "Thailand is not for sale."

Israel's Deputy Ambassador to Thailand, Rami Tzvik, addressed the protesters in Thai, assuring them that the embassy "takes the complaints seriously and is working with local authorities." He emphasized the embassy's commitment to addressing reports concerning Israeli tourists.

The embassy also posted on its official X account, stating that it had previously collaborated with Thai government agencies to issue a code of conduct for Israeli tourists. The embassy reiterated its commitment to good relations and encouraged tourists to respect all Thai people, with the deputy ambassador personally committed to communicating in Thai.
