Woman Accused of Online Dating Scam, Embezzling Funds for Lavish Shopping
Police in Netanya have indicted a local woman on 16 counts of theft, fraud, forgery, and using forged documents, stemming from an alleged scheme where she met men through dating apps and social media. According to the indictment, the suspect cultivated trust with these men before allegedly stealing their checks, credit cards, and property, including gold jewelry valued at tens of thousands of shekels.
The investigation began after several complaints were filed against the woman. She is accused of meeting victims, gaining their confidence, and then taking their payment methods and belongings. In some instances, she allegedly targeted individuals selling jewelry and other products online, meeting them across Israel and paying for items using stolen checks or payment methods, often with forged documents and false pretenses.
Investigators gathered evidence and subsequently arrested the suspect. Her detention was extended periodically by the court as the investigation progressed, culminating in the filing of the indictment by the Central District Prosecutor's Office.
