Israeli Charity Distributes 24,000 Food Parcels Ahead of Rosh Hashanah Amid Rising Poverty

The Israeli charity "Python Lev" will distribute 24,000 food parcels to needy families over two days in the lead-up to Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. This distribution is double the amount provided in a typical month, highlighting an increased demand for assistance.

Organization representatives stated that the cost of food parcels has risen by approximately 20% over the past two years. They criticized Israeli leadership for not adequately addressing the issue of poverty.

"Python Lev" extended an invitation to Knesset members to visit distribution points and witness the reality faced by the estimated 2 million impoverished individuals in Israel. As of the publication date, no lawmakers had accepted this invitation.

With elections approximately one month away, the organization urged political parties to outline their strategies for combating poverty and food insecurity. They questioned the absence of social programs and concrete solutions from parties seeking public trust.

Other charitable organizations are also reporting a surge in demand. "Leket" previously announced a 32% increase in requests for food parcels before the autumn holidays.
