Barak Abramov Sues Israeli Media Outlets for $270,000 Over Criminal Ties Allegations

Barak Abramov, owner of the Beitar Jerusalem soccer club and the Japnika restaurant chain, is suing three media organizations for 1 million shekels (approximately $270,000) each. He alleges that the outlets falsely linked him and his businesses to the Jarushi crime family, suggesting he was involved in criminal activities and a "crime war."

Abramov claims the reports, which appeared on different programs and from various journalists within a 24-hour period, were baseless and damaging to his businesses, causing a significant drop in revenue. He asserts that his businesses operate legitimately and that he has no business ties with the Jarushi family, describing his acquaintance with them as superficial.

The lawsuits were filed against Kan 11 (Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation), Keshet 12 (Channel 12 News), and Amir Zohar, owner of the "Pundak" website. Abramov is seeking not only financial compensation but also apologies, corrections, and retractions from the defendants.

He stated that if law enforcement suspects him of any wrongdoing, they are welcome to investigate or arrest him. Abramov had previously sent warning letters to the media outlets demanding a response within 24 hours, but claims they did not comply, leading him to file the lawsuits. The plaintiffs are also seeking legal fees and court costs.
