Negev Schools Strike Over Ongoing Electricity Crisis

Schools in Al-Fura'a, located in the Negev desert, are continuing their strike for a second consecutive day. The action was initiated by the Parents' Committee to protest the irregular supply of electricity to the educational facilities. This issue has persisted for over two years.

The Arad Municipality, responsible for providing services to the schools, stated that the existing electrical infrastructure is insufficient for the institutions' needs, leading to frequent power outages that disrupt the educational process. The municipality has reportedly contacted the Ministry of Education dozens of times in writing, requesting funding to upgrade the electrical infrastructure.

Approximately one month ago, the municipality received a budget allocation for infrastructure replacement work, which is expected to take about six months to complete. As a temporary measure until the infrastructure repairs are finished, a generator is scheduled to be installed at the high school next week to provide a more stable power supply and improve learning conditions.
