Brother of Suspect in Caucasus Crime Boss Murder Arrested
Israeli police have arrested the brother of the main suspect in the murder of Caucasus crime boss Yanis Yushubayev. The brother, who allegedly helped the main suspect escape, was on the run for two weeks before his apprehension on Sunday. His detention has been extended until Monday.
Authorities are seeking to extend the detention of two other suspects already in custody for Yushubayev's murder. Unlike the other two, who are remaining silent, the arrested brother provided investigators with an alibi and denied any involvement in the crime.
Investigators are also examining evidence suggesting that one of the already-detained suspects met with Yushubayev days before the assassination at a gas station. Police are exploring the possibility that this meeting was intended to deceive Yushubayev and lower his guard before carrying out the murder.
The main suspect, who has refused to respond to evidence presented against him, has adopted an aggressive stance with investigators, stating, "I am arrested for my name, not for anything else."
