Five Illegal Immigrants Found Hidden in Cargo Area at Crossing
Police in the Judea and Samaria district apprehended a vehicle at the Rantis crossing containing five undocumented residents from the region hidden in its cargo area. The driver, a man in his 20s from Jaffa, was arrested on suspicion of attempting to smuggle them into Israel for payment.
The operation stemmed from intelligence received by the Ariel police station in the Samaria region. Officers staked out the crossing to intercept the suspect vehicle, which had previously been flagged and was described as "rehabilitated." Authorities suspect the vehicle was used to transport illegal residents for money.
Upon reaching the crossing, officers signaled the driver to stop and searched the vehicle. They discovered five individuals concealed within the cramped cargo space, attempting to pass through the checkpoint. The driver was arrested, and thousands of shekels in cash were found in his vehicle. His detention has been extended until September 11, 2026.
The five undocumented residents were also detained and are expected to appear in court later today, where police will seek to extend their arrests. The police stated that operations against the smuggling of illegal residents will continue proactively and with focus, aiming to apprehend those involved, prosecute them, and protect public safety.
