Five Illegal Immigrants Found Hidden in Vehicle Trunk at Crossing
Israeli police officers from the Judea and Samaria district intercepted a suspicious vehicle at the Rantis crossing on Wednesday, uncovering a planned smuggling operation. Five Palestinians from the West Bank were found concealed in the vehicle's cargo area, attempting to enter Israel illegally.
The operation was based on intelligence gathered by officers from the Ariel station. Police suspected the vehicle, a 'Meshtoba' van, was being used to smuggle individuals into Israel for payment.
Upon stopping the vehicle for inspection at the Rantis crossing, officers opened the trunk and discovered the five undocumented individuals. The driver, a man in his 20s from Jaffa, was arrested at the scene. Thousands of shekels in cash were found in his vehicle during a search.
The driver's detention was extended, and the five individuals were brought before a court for a hearing regarding the police's request to extend their detention. The police stated they will continue to act decisively against the smuggling of illegal residents to protect public safety and maintain order.
