Hebron's Tomb of the Patriarchs Roof Repaired Ahead of Jewish New Year

A significant renovation project to replace the roof of the Tomb of the Patriarchs in Hebron has been completed, just in time for the Rosh Hashanah holiday. The work, which lasted several months, was carried out following a political decision by Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich to annul municipal aspects of the Hebron Agreement and transfer planning and construction jurisdiction from the local municipality to direct government control. The project aims to ensure that thousands of Jewish worshippers can pray in appropriate conditions for the upcoming holiday.

Speaking at the site, Minister Smotrich declared the Tomb of the Patriarchs to be "the first sovereign acquisition of the Jewish people," bought by Abraham from Ephron the Hittite and a symbol of Jewish sovereignty. He thanked key partners, including Defense Minister Israel Katz, Minister Orit Strock, the head of the Central Command, the Civil Administration, COGAT, and the Ministry of Defense's Construction Authority, for their efforts in completing the project. Smotrich emphasized that the renovation would allow a large number of Jewish people to pray there in "dignified and proper conditions" for Rosh Hashanah.
