Israel Completes Major Renovation of Tomb of the Patriarchs in Hebron
Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich announced the completion of a significant renovation project at the Tomb of the Patriarchs in Hebron on Wednesday. The extensive roofing and refurbishment work, which lasted several months, was carried out following Smotrich's decision to cancel previous Hebron agreements and transfer authority over the site from the local municipality.
Speaking at the site, Smotrich declared the Tomb of the Patriarchs to be "the first sovereign inheritance of the people of Israel," symbolizing Israeli sovereignty in the land. He credited the successful completion to the "professional and strenuous work" of all involved parties.
Smotrich extended his gratitude to his partners in the initiative, including Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, Minister Orit Strock, the head of the Central Command, and representatives from the Civil Administration, COGAT, and the Building Administration. He described the project as a "historic closing of a circle."
The renovation aims to allow "multitudes of the people of Israel" to pray at the site under "fitting and dignified conditions" starting by the upcoming Rosh Hashanah holiday.
