National Library Launches Initiative to Preserve Memorial Books of Fallen Israelis

In anticipation of the three-year anniversary of the October 7th attacks, the National Library of Israel has announced a new initiative to collect and preserve memorial books and booklets created in memory of those killed and fallen.

Since October 7th, Israeli society has experienced immense loss, leading to the creation of numerous memorial publications by families, friends, communities, and organizations. These works, along with those left behind by the deceased and published in their memory, represent a significant part of the national and personal memory.

Starting October 7th, the National Library will host an exhibition titled "7.10 | Bound in Memory" for three months, showcasing the memorial books and booklets collected to date. The library is also appealing to the public to help locate and submit additional memorial publications.

This initiative is part of the National Library's broader documentation effort following the October 7th events and the ensuing war. Through its October 7th Archive, the library aims to collect, preserve, and catalog testimonies, collections, and materials that document the events and the period for future generations.

A dedicated mini-site on the library's website will also be launched, offering digital access to the personal stories, figures, and memories behind the names. The library encourages families who possess memorial books or booklets not yet submitted to deposit a physical and/or digital copy to ensure these significant publications are preserved and accessible.

The call for submissions extends to all bereaved families of fallen soldiers across all branches of the Israeli security forces, as well as families of victims of hostile acts throughout the country's history.
