The "Hishtil" fund, established by Canadian philanthropists Jerry Schwartz and Heather Reisman, awarded scholarships totaling hundreds of thousands of shekels to approximately 100 lone soldiers released since October 7. These scholarships cover full tuition and living expenses, with 10% of recipients studying medicine. The fund noted a demographic shift among lone soldiers, with an increasing number being Israeli-born, including those from the Haredi community, alongside immigrants from the former Soviet Union and North America. The couple has invested about half a billion shekels in the fund's activities in Israel over the past 20 years.
