Israel Police Face Critical Ammunition Shortage for Arad-7 Rifles

The Israeli Police are experiencing a severe shortage of ammunition for their Arad-7 precision rifles, with only approximately 2,000 rounds remaining in stock. This critical deficit, discovered two and a half years after the rifles were acquired, has prompted an urgent request to purchase an additional 130,000 rounds, a 65-fold increase. The decision to procure more ammunition was made only after reserves reached a minimal level, raising concerns about the police's inventory planning, especially given the ongoing regional tensions.

A significant depletion of ammunition could severely hamper police operations during escalations or prolonged security missions. A police spokesperson attributed the reduced stock to a revised operational approach and increased usage, including during incidents involving individuals attempting to illegally enter Israel. The spokesperson declined to provide specific details on operational methods for security reasons.

The Arad-7 is a modular 7.62x51mm caliber rifle designed for precision shooting up to 1,000 meters, utilized by the military, police, and special forces. This shortage comes amid recent personnel changes within the police force, with several senior officers recently resigning and the Police Commissioner, Dani Levi, preparing to appoint replacements.
