Israel Police Faces Critical Shortage of Sniper Rifle Ammunition
Israel Police are facing a severe ammunition shortage for their "Arad 7" sniper rifles, with only approximately 2,000 rounds remaining in stock. These rifles, acquired about two and a half years ago and used by elite units, are now critically low on ammunition. The police are urgently requesting to purchase around 130,000 rounds, a quantity 65 times larger than the current supply.
The dwindling ammunition raises concerns about inventory planning and management, particularly given the current sensitive security situation. A sudden escalation or conflict could lead to rapid depletion of ammunition for operational units. The rifles have been in operational use for years, yet the request for a large, urgent resupply comes only now as the stock nears depletion.
Police attribute the shortage to a "professional change in concept" and increased usage, including firing at illegal infiltrators attempting to enter Israel. Sniper rifle ammunition is designed for precise shooting in operational scenarios, and a limited supply could quickly become a significant operational problem during a security deterioration, multiple incidents, or prolonged activity.
When asked for comment, the Israel Police stated, "For information security reasons, we do not detail operational methods and means."
