Likud Party Demands Probe into Haaretz Report, Cites Palestinian Official
The Likud party has called for a criminal investigation into Haaretz newspaper, journalist Shlomi Eldar, Ruth Yuval, Yair Golan, and the Democratic Party, alleging foreign interference in Israeli elections. This demand follows a Haaretz report claiming Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu received a warning from the UAE about an impending attack before October 7th.
In a statement, Likud asserted that Palestinian official Mohammed Dahlan, based in the UAE, is behind the "false report" published by Haaretz. The party claims Dahlan, who has formed a joint list with Hamas for Palestinian Authority elections, aims to overthrow the Israeli right-wing government to seize control of Gaza. Likud believes Dahlan desires a weak left-wing government that would withdraw from Gaza and cede it to his control.
Likud further alleged that Eldar received payment from a left-wing organization linked to Yair Golan's Democratic Party to spread the "false narrative." The party also questioned a secret visit by Yair Golan and Ronen Bar to the UAE approximately two months ago, asking if it was connected to the Haaretz publication.
Meanwhile, former U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken responded to another Haaretz report, which stated Hamas was willing to release all civilian hostages immediately on October 7th. Blinken dismissed this claim as "a lie, a complete fabrication."
