New Yeshiva Established Near Gaza Border, Aims to Be First in Strip

A new religious seminary, "Yeshivat Gaza," has been established by Rabbi Malachi Pozan and his family, who relocated to Sderot to lead the initiative. The seminary's core group of students began their studies in early September in a grove near the Gaza border, with a clear view of Beit Hanoun. The project is receiving support from prominent rabbis within Religious Zionism and practical assistance from Yeshivat Sderot and Rabbi Pandel.

Currently, a small group of permanent students are enrolled, supplemented by rotating groups of volunteers who join for study sessions. The seminary aims to foster a connection to the land and religious observance, with a long-term vision of being the first established institution within Gaza once Israeli settlements are re-established there.

To promote its mission and attract wider participation, Yeshivat Gaza held an educational day on Tuesday. The event featured talks by Rabbi Yosef Elnava, who drew parallels between the current situation and historical returns to areas like Gush Etzion, and Rabbi Pandel, who emphasized Sderot Yeshiva's backing for the new institution. Rabbi Uriel Benner also delivered a lesson.

Rabbi Asher Vodka spoke about the concept of "cherishing a commandment," explaining that the willingness to go above and beyond the basic requirements demonstrates a deep commitment, particularly in the context of settling the land of Israel. He stated that the participants are "cherishing the commandments" by striving to do more than others, thereby "mixing it up with the Satan" in this endeavor.

The seminary's founders hope to inspire public interest and faith in their project, demonstrating that even an initial presence just 500 meters from the border can grow. They have reported no conflicts with the military regarding their location, and the recent educational day was coordinated with the Israel Police.
