Israel and Syria are expected to resume contact under U.S. pressure, according to a report aired Wednesday evening by Kan News. The talks have been frozen for several months and would be the first since the war with Iran.
Sources familiar with the matter said the direct Israeli-Syrian channel would run in parallel with the direct dialogue already taking place between Jerusalem and Beirut.
The push is driven by U.S. President Donald Trump, who wants to bring Syrian President al-Shara into efforts to weaken Hezbollah in Lebanon. However, al-Shara has not endorsed the idea, and neither Israel nor Lebanon has expressed support for Trump’s initiative.
