Health Ministry Reports Flaw in Genetic Testing Kit for BRCA1 Gene
Israel's Ministry of Health announced on Sunday that a malfunction has been reported in a genetic testing kit for the BRCA1 gene manufactured by the company Gemidor. The issue raises concerns about the possibility of receiving false negative results.
Following the report, the ministry reviewed results from over 90,000 individuals tested with the faulty kit. Approximately 100 samples have been identified as potentially having received an incorrect negative result. Gemidor has since rectified the technical problem with the kit.
Genetic institutes and laboratories that used the defective kit are contacting affected individuals. Those whose results are deemed questionable may be asked to provide an additional blood sample for retesting.
