European Medical School to Open First Branch in Eilat

A historic precedent will be set this Wednesday with the inauguration of the International Faculty of Medicine in Eilat, a new branch in collaboration with the University of Debrecen in Hungary. This initiative, planned for years, aims to train approximately 300 students within five years to address a severe shortage of doctors in the southern Israeli city.

The new faculty is intended to advance medical education in southern Israel and bolster the healthcare system. Israeli students who had already begun their medical studies in Debrecen are expected to complete their second semester at the Eilat campus. This marks the first time in Israel that medical studies will be approved under a branch of a non-Israeli academic institution.

Eilat Mayor Eli Lankri hailed the development as a significant moment for the city and of national importance. He stated, "After years of hard work, we are turning one of Eilat's biggest challenges into an opportunity: to build a medical knowledge center here, train doctors, and strengthen the healthcare system for years to come." Lankri expressed gratitude to the Israeli government and all partners who supported the project, calling it a historic step for Eilat and an important one for the entire country. He conveyed readiness and excitement for the launch, wishing the first medical students great success.
