Thai Authorities Deport French Zoo Director After Israeli Tourist Incident

Thai authorities have officially ordered the deportation of a French national, Kevin Dimino, the director of the Samui Exotic Park on the popular tourist island of Koh Samui. This action follows an international scandal that began in the summer of 2026 when the zoo displayed Palestinian flags and signs prohibiting entry to Israeli citizens. Dimino, who co-owns the zoo with his Thai wife, claimed the measures were a response to past conflicts with Israeli tourists.

The situation escalated when an Israeli family from Rosh Ha'ayin, visiting with young children, was denied entry. A verbal altercation ensued, which reportedly turned physical when Dimino allegedly assaulted the father. The incident was captured on video, sparking widespread outrage on social media.

Following the public outcry, legal proceedings were initiated. A local court found the Israeli tourist guilty of making threats, sentencing him to a suspended prison term and a fine. Subsequently, Thailand's Ministry of Interior revoked his visa, deeming his behavior a threat to public order, and ordered his deportation.

Days later, authorities took similar action against Dimino. He faced charges including threats, physical assault, and inciting racial and religious conflict. Thai officials have stated that while the country welcomes tourists and investors, it will not tolerate attempts to turn its resort areas into platforms for political disputes or inter-ethnic hatred.

This incident is part of a broader trend of escalating tensions, with the Israeli embassy having previously intervened in accusations against Israelis in Thailand.
