Genesis GV60 Magma Debuts as Potent Yet User-Friendly Performance SUV

Genesis has launched its first performance model under the new Magma division with the GV60 Magma, a sportier iteration of its electric SUV. The GV60 Magma boasts 650 horsepower and aims to compete with high-performance vehicles from brands like AMG and M, while emphasizing user-friendliness for a wider range of drivers.

The Magma performance division was inspired by Hyundai's success with its N performance brand. After showcasing a concept car in early 2023 and a prototype in 2024, the GV60 Magma is now entering production as the inaugural model, with more vehicles expected to follow.

Visually, the GV60 Magma retains the base model's restrained design but adds aggressive elements such as a large rear wing, diffusers, and 21-inch wheels. It is available in a striking orange or a matte black finish. The interior features high-quality materials, a dual 12.3-inch screen setup for the instrument cluster and infotainment, and dedicated physical controls for climate. Notably, it includes performance-oriented seats and a 'Boost' button on the steering wheel.

Under the hood, the electric powertrain has been significantly upgraded from the standard GV60 and its N-branded counterparts. It features dual motors delivering a combined 448 horsepower in normal mode, escalating to 650 horsepower and 79 kgfm of torque in the 'Boost' mode, which can be activated for 15 seconds or automatically when the accelerator is pressed to 95%. The car also incorporates an engine sound emulator, mimicking a V6 engine, and simulated gear shifts.

On the road, the GV60 Magma accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds and reaches a top speed of 264 km/h. Genesis has tuned the adaptive suspension to handle rough roads while maintaining comfort, a departure from the firmer setups of some competitors. The steering is sharp, and the vehicle demonstrates impressive cornering stability and agility, attributed to a slightly lowered center of gravity and refined electronic systems.

The GV60 Magma is equipped with an 84 kWh battery, offering an estimated range of 448 km. It supports ultra-fast charging, capable of reaching 80% charge from 10% in just 18 minutes with a 350 kW charger. Pricing for the Israeli market is estimated to be between 500,000 and 600,000 NIS, suggesting it will be a niche offering.
